What is IDEA (Illinois Data
Exchange Affiliates)?
IDEA is a voluntary group of
government agencies and not for profit organizations working to improve data
sharing in Illinois. Our work includes the creation of a web-based, real
time data sharing network that can
- Establish technical standards
for organizing and sharing data
- Ensure organizations’
security, confidentiality and proprietary needs
- Simplify intergovernmental and
cross organizational data sharing

Information for the Future
Over the next decade, trillions
of dollars in private and public funds will be invested in America's cities
and urban communities. Information influences the investment decisions that
will shape how those funds are used—whether to expand a warehouse, open a
new store, extend credit for personal and business loans, locate an
elementary school, reinvigorate downtowns, build new transportation
corridors or support new neighborhood housing. When information to make
those decisions is inaccurate or unavailable, an information gap exists and
urban markets fail to thrive.
Web-based, Real Time Data
Management
Web-based, real time data sharing
makes it easy for organizations to share accurate, up-to-date information
both internally and externally while saving time and money by eliminating
cumbersome and repetitive, one-time data downloads. Web-based systems
- Are useable on any platform
- Tested—they are industry
standard in the private sector
- Strongly endorsed by the World
Wide Web Consortium
- Easily readable by any web
server
- Maintain the integrity of your
system because standards govern only the discovery and exchange of
information, not how data is stored or retrieved
- Secure—proprietary information
remains secure.
Advantages of a Web-based,
Real Time Data Delivery System
Improved data sharing will
- Generate better quality data.
Data is up-to-date and errors in recompilation are eliminated
- Make more data available.
Makes cross organizational and platform data sharing simple.
- Save time and money. No
duplication of data, reduces need to mediate FOIA requests and repeated
